We’re off and “walking” for 2018! The good people of Perth joined us on March 25 for our first “Put Your Foot Down” walk for the year. Despite the windy conditions it was wonderful to see so many old and new faces from the Perth community who banded together for their 5th annual walk for Pancreatic Cancer and helped raise over $23,000!

Sir James Mitchell Park was once again awash with purple as our walkers and their four-legged friends, who, in some cases out dressed their owners, turned up to support a cause close to their hearts. The Best-Dressed Prize was virtually impossible to pick but thanks to the generosity of Muk Haircare Global and Woolworths we were able to give out some extra awards to some very creative adults and children.

This year we were delighted to have Tierney and James from Perk Up With Me - Mobile Coffee providing much-needed caffeine for our workers and walkers. Tierney and James donated their time in memory of their grandmother who lost her battle to Pancreatic Cancer. Thank you to their mum, Karen, for all her help in making this possible. Also helping us warm-up before the walk was the Bayswater Rugby Club who yet again stretched us all out and put smiles on faces - thanks Fergie!

A very big thank you to our wonderful MC, Anthea Halliday, for making sure everything ran smoothly. Our guest speakers Dr. Andrew Dean and Prof. Marco Falasca from Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute for updating us on the research they are currently undertaking and reminding us all why the walks are so important for much-needed funding.

A big thank you to the Woolworths team and especially Dominique for organising and managing the BBQ, cooking everyone’s favourite Beak & Sons sausages and selling our Deep Spring drinks which are kindly donated at every walk by Coca-Cola Amatil.

As you know it takes an army of volunteers to make the walks possible and we were so lucky to have Len De Nooyer and Anthea Halliday with us again this year to take on the endless tasks involved and organising the army of volunteers. Last year Charlene Yates Bishop moved from Hobart to Perth so we now have another wonderful volunteer on board (much to the disappointment of our Hobart team!).

A big congratulations to our highest Team Fundraiser, Ryan Verge, who this year not only celebrates his 5-year survival rate but also, along with his team “Walking with Ryan”, raised over $4,800. He generously gifted his prize to the runner-up “Team Pasco” given his team are still enjoying all the MUK hair care products from last year’s win! Our highest Individual Fundraiser, Emma Briggs sacrificed her hair for the Foundation and, in the process raised over $1,400 for us.

To everyone who registered for the walk and fundraised on our behalf, we thank each and every one of you and look forward to seeing everyone in 2019!
