Our history dates back to October 2008 when the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund was launched at Avner’s workplace – Woolworths Head Office.
Avner’s Fund was managed by a dedicated group of people – friends and colleagues of Avner’s as well as Avner’s wife Caroline, who set out to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research. Our goal was to raise $1 million to fund a trial to be carried out by the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG). It was a big goal to aim for and the team who managed Avner’s Fund reasonably thought it would take quite a few years to achieve. We hadn’t banked on the incredible support of our many generous corporate and individual supporters who together achieved this aim within two years of launching!
Having achieved this goal, we knew it was only the beginning. We incorporated as a Foundation on 30 July 2010. Our Foundation, the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation Limited, is the only Foundation in Australia exclusively dedicated to Pancreatic Cancer.
