Brisbane Walkers 2018

Our seventh annual Brisbane “Put Your Foot Down” walk for Pancreatic Cancer was shaping up to be a very soggy event in the days leading up to it but on the morning of Sunday, 7 October the sun was shining down on our patch of purple in Teralba Park.

This year we were delighted to have Brian Derbyshire take on the role of MC. Brian lost his wife, Jenny, to Pancreatic Cancer in 2017. Jenny held the Foundation close to her heart and participated in the walk in 2016 with her team “Jenny’s Sole Mates” who have continued her legacy in 2017 and 2018.

Prior to the commencement of the walk, we heard from our founder, Caroline Kelly who updated our walkers on the work of the Foundation. We also heard from one of our 2017 Innovation Grant recipients, Dr. John Hooper, who managed to “dumb down” his research findings for us and reminded us all just how important continued funding is for research.

Thank you to the 233 walkers who fundraised, donated and volunteered. Collectively you raised over $26,000 which is an incredible result and we still have donations coming in.
A very big thank you to Mark Di Bacco and his dad, Lui, for once again organising the Brisbane walk and coordinating the army of volunteers needed to run the walk. Our walks wouldn’t be possible without the team that works tirelessly to make sure our walks are a success.
The wonderful Brisbane Bunya Lions Club who volunteered their Sunday morning again this year to run the BBQ for us. They are such an amazing organisation and we are so thankful for their passion and dedication.
Maria from Tall, Dark, and Caffeinated for supplying the much-needed coffees and for donating a percentage of her takings to us.
David from Velocity Fitness for warming us all up and bringing along his wonderful team to help out and once again and a big thank you to David for taking such wonderful photos.

We must also thank the Everton Park Girl Guides for allowing us to use their hall to store all our equipment and the use of their equipment. Congratulation to our prize winners;

  • Highest Fundraising Team - Annie Cridland “Loved Forever”
  • 2nd Highest Team - Team Annie
  • Highest Individual Fundraiser - Janice McIlrick
  • 2nd Highest Individual - Marguerite Donaldson
  • Best Dressed Group - Poppa’s Sharks

Finally, we must thank our corporate sponsors; Coca-Cola Amatil for supplying the drinks we sell at the walks, Beak & Sons for supplying their sausages, muk Haircare Global for supplying their haircare products that are given to all our prize winners, Woolworths for donating vouchers that we can use to buy all the extra provisions for the bbq and Wellcom Worldwide for supplying all our printing. Their generous supports means we can raise the maximum for Pancreatic Cancer research. Make sure you are registered for our Brisbane newsletter so you can be the first to know about our 2019 walk!
