We are so excited to announce our 2017 Grant Funding round is now open for applications!! In this round we are making available $2 million which adds to the already $3.9 million allocated through our grants program over the last two years.

Avner Golf Day in memory of Peter Murphy

On Friday March 24, Des Heffernan organised a golf day at the Mt. Barker-Hahndorf Golf Club in memory of his family friend, Peter Murphy, who lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer in 2013. Des’ death motivated Peter to do something to help change the statistics by raising money for the Avner Foundation.

On Thursday night we launched a “Council of Governors” for the Foundation. The evening was attended by governors, directors and friends of the Foundation. The governors are people who have helped raise significant funds over the years and through their various activities have brought awareness to this underdog of cancers.

Anyone who has been involved with Pancreatic Cancer understands its vicious cycle, insufficient awareness and funding means it has fallen way behind in medical research. The lack of research means Pancreatic Cancer is almost always diagnosed when a sufferer is close to death. Almost no survivors means almost no awareness, which is why it receives insufficient funding.
