We had a stunning day for our 7th annual Sydney walk, which took place in the new location of Shelly Beach. All who participated agreed this was a fantastic location. Not only is the setting superb looking out on the water, but so much interest was created by the steady steam of “purple people” walking along the Manly Beach esplanade, that we had many people who were passing by asking what we were doing and who we were raising money for. We also had a record crowd for Sydney, with 322 people registering for the event and an amazing $44,125 being raised so far!
Thank you to all those who registered, fundraised, donated and dressed up in such creative outfits to support the Foundation through this walk.
Thank you to all those who volunteered their time and resources to make this walk a success. This walk could not go ahead without you and we are so grateful for your support.
Thank you to Maysoon El-Ahmed for helping with the organisation in the lead-up to the walk, and on the day with registrations, along with Armineh Mardirossian. A big thank you to Luke Dunkerley for collecting all the food and drinks on the day – we would have gone hungry without you! Thank you to Peter Hosking for being MC again at the event. Thank you to Rick Lovett for your efficient organisation of the Marshalls once again. Thank you to Donna Patchett, Lisa Manzo, Jamie King and David Beak who cooked up a storm on the BBQ to feed the hungry walkers before and after the event. Thank you to Jude and Sietse for serving all the hungry people their food, and to Jude for collecting the PA for the day. Thank you to Don Yeaman for collecting the ice at such short notice and for all your help on the merchandise stall. Special thanks to Anne Edwards from the Bold & Beautiful Swim Squad for also surprising us with your help on the stall! Thank you to our First Aid volunteers Gary Edwards and Ben Hosking for being available to help on the day. Thank you to Sinead and Will for being ready to help wherever needed, and Sinead in particular for taking so many wonderful photos!
A huge thank you to the Bold and Beautiful Swim Squad in Manly who gave so much support in the lead up to the event through donations and especially to Elizabeth who organised the cake stalls which raised an amazing $1,692.45. Thank you to those swimmers who also came to support us on the day at the walk.
Thank you to Matthew Jones at Woolworths Balgowlah who facilitated and donated goods/equipment for a fundraising BBQ held on the weekend prior to the walk, which raised $1928.
Thank you to those companies who continue to support us so generously every year at every walk - Beak & Sons who donated all the delicious sausages, Coca-Cola Amatil who donated the drinks and to Muk Haircare who generously donated prizes to give out on the day.
A special thank you goes to Masters Home Improvement who donated two fabulous marquees to the Foundation to use at our Sydney walks.
