Hobart 2018 “Put Your Foot Down” Walk for Pancreatic Cancer

Tuesday, 01 May 2018 Posted in Past Events, 2018

Thank you Hobart City Council for shining a purple light every night on The Mall, Kennedy Lane, Railway Fountain and Franklin Square Fountain in the week leading up to this year’s “Put Your Foot Down” walk to help raise awareness of Pancreatic Cancer and supporting our 7th annual Hobart walk.

Unfortunately, the sun failed to shine as brightly at Long Beach reserve on the morning of the walk but it didn’t deter our walkers from wrapping up in purple and coming out in force in support and raising over $6,500.

A huge thank you again goes to Alex and Catherine and their wonderful team of volunteers who make the walk happen come rain, hail or shine every year and to Ellie Ross, from Double Shot Mobile coffee Van and Rotary Lindisfarne at the BBQ for keeping everyone fuelled and warm.

Thank you to our special guest, Dr. Robert Bohmer, Fellow of the College of Surgeons (FRACS) for his insightful words. Dr. Bohmer is a consultant general surgeon and has been involved in Pancreatic Cancer surgery since 2002 after training in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. He is currently based at Hobart Private and Royal Hobart hospitals.

A very special mention to Evie Grace who created her own “Children’s Club” prior to the walk to raise money in memory of her Poppie who died of Pancreatic Cancer. Evie organised for her school to dress up in purple for a day and she also sold her drawings at the walk and donated all the proceeds to the Foundation.

Special thanks always goes to our amazing sponsors; Woolworths, Coca-Cola Amatil, Red Jelly, Wellcom Worldwide, Beak & Sons and muk Haircare Global and our local sponsors, Cripps Nubake and Tasmanian Bakeries. It is only through their generous help and support that we can raise the maximum at our walks.

We would particularly like to thank Triple M Hobart, ABC Hobart, The Mercury Newspaper and Win News for helping us spread the word about the walk and the disease.

Each year we see so many old faces and welcome new ones and we thank each and every one of you for fundraising, dressing up and walking for us. It is only through your help and support that we can collectively reach our goal of doubling the number of survivors of Pancreatic Cancer by 2020.
