Melbourne 2017 'Put Your Foot Down" walk for Pancreatic Cancer

Monday, 05 June 2017 Posted in Past Events, 2017

The good people of Melbourne never disappoint and our 7th annual “Put Your Foot Down” walk for Pancreatic Cancer was no exception. Once again Alexandra Gardens was full of “Purple People” as our walker’s creativity continues to grow each year. Thank you to all our wonderful supporters who, to date, have raised more than $59,000 (and still growing) for our 2017 Melbourne walk which will go directly towards research projects into Pancreatic Cancer.

We are so grateful to George Calombaris and AFL St. Kilda star Maverick Weller for finding the time in their very busy schedules to attend the walk. Maverick took the crowd through a very impressive warm-up prior to the walk. We were all thrilled to see and meet our favourite celebrity chef, George Calombaris. George and Maverick were inundated with requests for photos in return for a gold coin donation and their smiles continued until every coin had been collected! We are so grateful to Channel 10 for featuring the walk on the news and for George’s heartfelt words and for Candice Wyatt’s informative reporting of the facts of the disease.

As always, a massive thank you to the Melbourne planning team of Lynne Umbers, Lisa Ricketts and Vassie Catalano who give up so much of their time each year to make sure the walk runs smoothly. They ensure every facet of the walk is covered and, as our largest walk in terms of volunteers and walkers, this is no easy task.

A very big thank you to each and everyone of the army of volunteers that not only help out in the lead up to the walk but turn up on the day and support us wherever help is needed. The walk just couldn’t happen without the support of these amazing people!

A very special thank you to our wonderful MC, Jonathan Fox, and Connie Hronopoulos and Peter Russell for their amazing photography again, Alex and Catherine Nicholson who organise the Hobart walk and always fly up to help out at the Melbourne walk.

A very big thank you to the City of Melbourne for organising the Melbourne GPO to be lit up in purple in support of the “Put Your Foot Down” walk and Pancreatic Cancer once again.

We also need to acknowledge and thank the following companies for all their continuing help and support; Hacer, Dann Event Hire, City of Melbourne Events, Serco, Coffee Vandal, Lauriston Girl’s School, Lombards, ProSport and Woolworths South Yarra.

As always, a very big thank you to our incredible sponsors who just keep giving; Woolworths Limited, Coca-Cola Amatil, Beak & Sons, MUK Haircare, Wellcom Worldwide and Red Jelly.
