Not only were the Jacaranda's out in full bloom in Teralba Park on Sunday, October 8 but also a small patch of the park was a sea of purple for our sixth annual Brisbane "Put Your Foot Down" walk for Pancreatic Cancer.
A huge "thank you" to everyone who took part in the walk, fundraised, donated and volunteered.
We are so pleased to announce that to date the 2017 Brisbane walk has raised $30,792 and donations are still coming in.
We were so lucky to have our local volunteer, Mark Di Bacco, pick up the baton from Zoe Brady, who organised last year’s walk, and make it all happen again so seamlessly in another new location.
We are so grateful to Mark, who lost his beautiful mum to Pancreatic Cancer earlier this year, for giving those in Brisbane, and further afield, who have also been affected by the disease an opportunity to be amongst those who understand and those who want to support the Foundation's vision of doubling the number of survivors of Pancreatic Cancer by 2020.
As always it takes a village to make this walk happen and we would like to thank our amazing team of volunteers for manning the registration stall and the water station; Lynne, Mary, Elizabeth, Emily, David, Scott, Melanie, Megan, Jennifer, Lucas, Patricia, David, Helen, Sue and Mary. Also, the Lake family for manning the merchandise stall, the wonderful Brisbane Bunya Lions Club for keeping us all fed and watered, the boys from Wandering Man Espresso for keeping us all caffeinated, David from Velocity Fitness for warming us all up, Alex for supplying the music and PA system again this year, David for capturing the walk with his fantastic photos and Jack for the inaugural drone shots!
We would also like to thank Cherie from the Everton Park Girl Guides for allowing us to use their hall to store all our equipment and for the last minute loan of tables and chairs.
An extra special mention to the amazing Keren who stepped in at the very last minute to MC for us. We are so grateful to her for giving up her Sunday to help us out and for doing such a fantastic job!
We must also acknowledge our speakers Lynne and Sue for sharing their very personal memories of Annie with us. When we hear such heartwarming stories it hits home how important the walks are for not only raising money to help fight Pancreatic Cancer, but to unite those who have lost loved ones to the disease.
