We are thrilled to announce that at the 2nd only 'Put Your Foot Down' walk held in Townsville on Sunday, August 28 not only almost doubled the number of participants from last year but also raised raised in excess of $23,000!
This walk was in jeopardy of being cancelled until our incredible volunteers Mick Keir and Kristen Goltl picked up the reins and organised the whole event.
The Strand was once again transformed into a “purple haze” as our band of walkers snaked their way along the promenade in the brilliant sunshine.
There are so many people we need to mention for putting together this wonderful event but a big thank you to MacDonnells Law for the use of their marquees again this year. Col Ryan and all the helpers from the Lions Club who manned the BBQ and kept our walkers, volunteers and very interested passersby fed. 'Bouncers Basketball' donated the use of their PA System which was very helpful and unlike the one used at the Sydney walk it worked! A big thank you to Woolworths for supplying all the ingredients needed for the BBQ, Beaks & Sons for supplying our favourite sausages and Coca-Cola Amatil for supplying the Deep Spring Avner Water and flavoured mineral water.
We would also like to acknowledge Millie Gesch and Dot Parnell who shared their very personal stories of what it’s like to see a loved one go through Pancreatic Cancer and reinforced everyone’s commitment to the walk and the much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer research.
Thank you to everyone who helped set up, manned the stalls and just made sure the day ran smoothly; Dot and Alan Parnell, Colleen Parnell, Darren Lindsay, Maureen and Ross Keir, Kay and Matt Dixon, Ash and Carrie Keir, Darren and Kristen Goltl, Peter and Marissa McKillop, Jess (our photographer) and Dave Keir, Connnor Keir, Kate and Tony Thompson, Carol and Dirk Hoult, Col Ryan and all the helpers from the Lions Club, Millie Gesch, Geoff and our photographer Kellie Keir.
Congratulations to our top fundraisers who were awarded MUK Haircare products for their incredible efforts:

- Michael Keir and his group “Love Over Cancer” raised $2,314
- Individual Fundraisers Colleen Parnell $440.80 and Jimmy Bortot $396.80
