A fantastic inaugural walk in Townsville for Pancreatic Cancer

Tuesday, 23 June 2015 Posted in Past Events, 2015

We had a beautiful warm morning for our first “Put Your Foot Down” walk in Townsville on 14 June 2015. 92 people registered to take part and $12,183 has been raised so far. What a great result!

The Strand turned purple as the walkers made their way along the route. On return to the Rockpool Headland there were sausages sizzling on the BBQ, ably cooked by the cheerful Woolworths team.

Thank you to all who registered, fundraised, donated and dressed up in such creative outfits to support the Foundation through this walk.

Thank you to the amazing volunteers from Woolworths who were a pleasure to work with on the day – dedicated and hardworking. Thank you to Wendy Brindley and Scott Hawkins who helped with so much of the co-ordination prior to the walk and to Woolworths for the donation of food and equipment. Thank you to Aaron Troughton who organised the Deep Spring drinks, ice and eskies for the walk and who was there on the day to help out along with the other generous Coca-Cola Amatil employees.

Thank you to Linda Brown who helped promote the walk and helped organise many aspects behind the scenes before the walk. Thank you also to her family – Dave, Kristy and Adam who volunteered their time on the day.

Jannah Meredith aka ‘Dame Edna’ did a wonderful job as MC on the day and has been such a dedicated supporter of the “Put Your Foot Down” walks over the years. Thank you to Jamie King for flying up on Saturday night from Sydney to help with all the “heavy lifting” and being willing to do any job needed on the day.

Muk Haircare donated the prizes and have been incredibly generous with them across all our walks. We are grateful to MacDonnells Law for the use of their marquees for the walk.

We couldn’t manage without all those who volunteer and support these walks in many ways, and each and every one of you ensure the utmost is being done to help achieve our Vision of doubling the number of survivors of pancreatic cancer by 2020.

We look forward to seeing you in 2016!
