Our 7th Annual 'Best Things in Life" Dinner was held in Sydney at the splendid Ivy on George Street on Thursday 6th August 2015. The evening was co-hosted by Woolworths Limited and Coca-Cola Amatil.
Thank you to Grant O'Brien and Alison Watkins for hosting this great evening, which brought together 330 guests from leading companies across Australia and resulted in $275,000 (after event costs) being raised for the Foundation. We are very grateful for the continued support of Woolworths and Coca-Cola Amatil who helped make the evening such a success. There were many companies represented who have attended the event over the years and we thank them too for their continued support. We were also delighted to welcome some new companies to the dinner.
Caroline Kelly spoke from the heart about her own experience that led to the establishment of the Foundation, which since launching in 2008 has raised $6.3m. She detailed how this has been achieved through fundraising dinners, fundraising walks, donations from product sales such as Deep Spring Avner’s water, which has raised a staggering $857,000, and through other fundraising events such as the PGA Championship. Caroline also spoke about the incredible ‘Woolies on Wheels’ charity cycle, which ended up raising $400,000 last year, and will be funding some of the Grants in our inaugural funding round, which opened in July. Caroline also thanked our Ambassadors Claire Harvey and Dr Norman Swan, who have helped in raising awareness of the disease, as well as channels 9, 7, 10 and the ABC for coming together to make our Community announcement. Finally, she shared the inspirational story of George and his Mt Kilimanjaro climb.
Following Caroline, Claire Harvey, spoke about what the Foundation means to her and shared some warm, funny stories about her dad, the late Peter Harvey. Grant O’Brien Woolworths CEO spoke of the growing momentum of the foundation and of his friendship with Avner Nahmani during their many years of working together at Woolworths.
John Mangos, friend and colleague of the late Peter Harvey did an outstanding job as master of ceremonies, and after dinner Dave O’Neil kept the audience entertained.
The skilled Auctioneer Andrew Caillard as always did a wonderful job raising $19,300 in the live auction. A big thank you Pippa and David Beak for donating their ski lodge in Japan. David Beak has been a big supporter of the Foundation from the beginning, also generously donating all sausages for our Walks, and we are forever grateful of their support.
A special thank you to Donna Patchett whose exceptional organization skills helped to make this evening a huge success, and to Scott Eames, Lisa Manzo, Maysoon El-Ahmed and Louise Culbert for helping on the evening and helping out from the Foundation, Julia Diebold.
Thank you to all that attended the dinner, donated and bought items in the auction and continue to make the “Best Things in Life” dinner such a great success.
